Jill BindewaldStrategy instruction is a tool to show students how to think about their reading. I do not believe that every reading experience in the classroom should be centered on strategy instruction. Sometimes students need time to read for joy. Sometimes students need to talk about books without objectives. Strategy lessons should never suck the joy out of reading but should be used as a way to help students learn to read with more "thinking power."
